Vidyavardhaka Law College, Mysore: Pioneering International Model United Nations Conferences

Since its inception, Vidyavardhaka Law College in Mysore has been at the forefront of fostering academic excellence and addressing global issues through its pioneering efforts in organizing Model United Nations (MUN) conferences.[1] The college takes immense pride in its rich history of hosting such impactful events, which have not only stimulated intellectual discourse but also contributed to raising awareness about critical international issues.

In 2017, the college made history by organizing the inaugural Model United Nations Conference,[2] focusing on the theme "Impact of Information Technology on International Peace and Security."[3] The event saw distinguished personalities such as Vijayakumar M. Pawale, Judge of the 6th Additional District and Sessions Court, Mysuru, and Dr. T.R. Maruthi, Associate Professor at the University of Mysore, deliver enlightening speeches. Under the guidance of Dr. Sridvei Krirshna,[4] the conference laid the foundation for future endeavors in this domain. Building on this success, the college continued its tradition by organizing subsequent MUN conferences in 2018 and 2019, each addressing pertinent global issues and attracting participants from diverse backgrounds. Notably, Mr.  Sayed Qudrat Hashimy was the Secretary General,[5] Anirudh Bharadwaj M, serving as the Chairperson and Mr. Mohammed Omar-ul-Haq, President of general Assembly  played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of these events.

In a significant milestone, Vidyavardhaka Law College partnered with the Institute of Legal and Policy Research hosted the International Model United Nations Conference on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities in 2024.[6] The agenda was the Path to Social Inclusion Through Recognition and Reasonable Accommodation for Disabilities.[7] This groundbreaking conference underscored the college's commitment to promoting inclusivity and advocating for the rights of marginalized communities.[8]  Looking towards the future, the college is set to host the 5th International Virtual Model United Nations Conference in 2024. With the theme "Sustainable Futures: Integrating Environmental Stewardship and Public Health," the event aligns with the International Environment Day and aims to foster dialogue and collaboration on pressing environmental and health challenges.[9]

At the heart of these endeavors lies a shared vision of creating positive change through collective action and collaboration. By providing a platform for dialogue and innovation, Vidyavardhaka Law College continues to inspire the next generation of leaders to address global challenges and work towards a more sustainable and equitable world.
